Finding and holding onto joy

Hi, I'm Krista Robinson-Lyles.

Welcome to Joy Anyhow!

My Story

I am a human trying to hold onto joy as an anchor in the ebb and flow of this life journey...a journey made both more beautiful and more complex as a mother, a wife, a daughter and a sister in a world filled with pain and inequity. One thing I know for sure, there is also joy.

The Joy Anyhow podcast was born out of my struggles and ongoing determination to live joyfully, even when the world seems to be on fire. That has become particularly critical for me as I navigate the professional world of teaching and leading for equity and justice, as an established educator, coach and consultant, and the Founder & President of Joy Hope Collective (formerly HOPE Education Group). Finally launching this podcast has fueled a long-awaited liberatory journey for me. I have been consciously dreaming about this for a couple of years now and I suspect I have unconsciously been preparing for it much longer than I can even imagine.

I have found deep healing in the quest to chart an authentic path for myself that I intend to share with others. Joy is a vital part of that path and there is a rich and powerful interconnectedness that joy offers, builds on and requires. I hope you will explore all of that with me. I am not a therapist or a counselor, I am a woman on a joy journey and I am inviting you to come along.

May we cultivate & co-create love, peace

& joy,

Krista

Tune into The Joy Anyhow podcast, where we dive deep into what it means to find wholeness in the midst of any storm. In each episode you will hear from a special guest as they invite us into the ups and downs of their joy journey, and offer any wisdom they have gained along the way. I hope you will join us and that you will be inspired to explore your own joy journey.

May we all be well,

Krista

I decided to see the things that happen to me as things for me, not to me. Even the things that are challenging are for me, and that’s a perspective change.

What calls you forward?

What are you curious about?

What excites you?

What is your soul code,

the energetic outlines of your puzzle piece,

telling you?

We can ask, “what else is possible”

as a result of whatever

the circumstances are,

what is this calling forth in us,

what is this inviting us to?

Every step in my journey is for me.

I wonder how I evolve from here?

When people say it’s a gloomy day in winter, I say “winter is doing its job, what are you doing?”

Joy is nothing but what you create on a daily basis.

You need to see the joy of failure too. Failure is nothing but another step to move forward. You understand more actually than before once you have failed at something.

Joy Anyhow is finding meaning, contentment, pleasure, delight in spite of all the stuff that is swirling around me

I do not look like what I have been through,

I have been through some stuff.

It can be easy to look at someone and where they

are now and think they have it easy.

We all have a journey and we have all

been through some stuff, but I truly believe

that when you choose joy,

the universe opens up to meet you

I love this quote by Wess Stafford “joy is a decision, a really brave one about how you are going to respond to life”

It’s ok to be sad, you don’t have to be happy all the time, it’s ok to be anxious or stressed sometimes. (what you can do is) Sit with yourself and ask yourself what you need in the moment.

Joy is a state of being, a choice and a practice, a ritual of intentional lovemaking, a garden that must be tended to, watered, spoken gently to and checked in on. It needs the sunshine as much as it needs the rain.
